Map concept
This cycling map contains a wealth of information that you can use in a variety of ways. The main routes shown in red and purple are mostly long-distance connections through the selected region. These routes are well-suited for crossing or exploring a region on longer tours. They usually follow marked cycle lanes. If no marked lane is available, our team has identified the best, most-direct bicycle route through the area. For shorter tours of one or two days, we recommend combining the main routes with the excursion or alternative routes shown in orange.
Map contents
Not only does this bikeline(R) bicycle map describe various routes, it also contains information about the quality and character of each segment. Main routes, alternative routes and mountain-bike trails may be depicted as solid lines, broken lines or dotted lines. The significance of each type of line can also be quickly identified in the map legend.
Roadway characteristics
On routes shown with a solid, unbroken line you can expect lightly-travelled paved roads and paths. A broken line indicates that the road surface is not paved. These range from gravel roads to dirt or sand tracks through fields and forests.
Traffic
Dotted lines indicate that the route follows roads with more traffic. The map distinguishes between two categories: If the dotted line runs along a road shown in white, you can expect moderate traffic (at least 1,000 vehicles/day). A dotted line following a yellow main road indicates heavy or very heavy traffic volume (over 2,000 vehicles/day). For an exact definition of road classifications please consult the map legend.
Gradients
Gradient arrows and elevations provide exact information about the region's topography. The map features two types of gradient arrows: Light arrows indicate gentle to medium inclines; bold arrows indicate medium to steep inclines. Gradient arrows always point uphill. Please bear in mind that the difficulty of each incline depends in part on subjective variables. When planning a tour, take into consideration your physical condition, the demands posed by each daily stage, and the type of bicycle you are riding. The gradient arrows and elevations shown in the map provide valuable information when planning a tour. Distance data Route information also includes the distance in kilometres of each segment. Please consult the "Other Information" part of the map legend for a precise explanation of how distance information is given. This data is also very useful when planning a tour.
Tourist information
The map provides comprehensive information about tourist facilities available along the recommended cycling routes. These include overnight accommodations, restaurants, beaches, campgrounds, youth hostels, boat landings and ferries as well as museums and other noteworthy sights. Please consult the legend for an explanation of all the symbols used in this map.
