PPWK

Road Atlas of Poland at 1:200,000 with 61 street plans plus enlargements for main urban conurbations. Impressively detailed presentation of the road network and larger number of smaller villages distinguish PPWK’s road atlases from rival publications.

All three PPWK atlases are spiral-bound but vary in size: 21 x 31cm (200K), 17x 27cm (250K) and 14 x 22.5cm (300K). The same base map is used, with reduced size print in the smaller versions, so the road network and the number of villages shown in each atlas is the same.

The atlases present the road network with very detailed classification according to the number of lanes, width and surface, from toll motorway to dirt tracks, indicating on motorways rest areas for cars and/or TIR vehicles and filling stations, plus steep gradients, particularly hazardous stretches of road or junctions, etc. Locations of speed radars are prominently marked and intermediate distances are shown on most local roads. Railways show local stations and include narrow gauge lines and funiculars. Symbols indicate selected hotels, campsites, youth hostels, mountain huts, etc. Topography is shown by subtle relief shading with spot heights plus colouring and graphics indicating forested areas and swamps or marshes. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 10’ intervals. The atlases have a distance table and a very extensive index of localities. Map legend includes English.

Also included in the two larger versions (200K and 250K) but not in the 300K atlas are: names and boundaries national or regional parks, scenic routes, more detailed presentation of railway crossings, and symbols for churches, synagogues or mosques. The 300K atlas also shows fewer speed check points.

Special features in this 1:200,000 version are:

- enlargements at 1:100,000 of the environs of Warsaw, Kraków /Cracow, the Katowice Industrial District, and the Tri-City area (Gdansk - Sopot- Gdynia)

- 61 city plans at 1:25,000 of all the country’s main towns indicating paid-parking zones. In larger cities the plans cover the central districts.

- coverage extending to Berlin, Kaliningrad, Vilnius and Lviv

- mapping of the whole of Europe at 1:4,500,000 (although the motorway connections are not particularly well differentiated from other major roads)

- road signs, advice on first aid, lists and a map of border crossings - all the text in this section is in Polish only, but much of the information is self-explanatory
